HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEMES
THE YEAR'S PROFIT (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Power Boards Conference opened to-day. Mr Nash,. M.P., presiding. The attendance was about 150. The Public Works Minister and Mr Coates wire present. The Hon. K. A. Ransom, addressing the delegates, said he did not wish to dissociate Mr Coates from the progress 'made, lie had brought forward many of the big schemes now in hand. The Minister outlined the position with regard to various plants in operation and preparation, and dealt with the subject of charges-'. Statistics showed that. all undertakings had made a profit of £502,576 for the year vmk>\ 31st March after allowing for operating and capital costs, lie stressed the importance of amalgamating costs. The whole position niu'sl be considered as a national one and units inns! be co-ordinated. Mr (Vales said he saw no general difficulties in the way cf progress. He considered that legislation preventing any local supply authority developing .■' scheme of its own would be beneficial. Votes of thanks to the speakers were carried.
