The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson and Lady Alice Fergusson left iMurchison about 1 o'clock this afternoon. They are expected here just before dinner this evening. They L will leave for Wellington by the Matangi to-night. Mr J. Voss, of Christchureh, has been appointed superintendent of the New Zealand Methodist Correspondence Sunday School, which is reorganising its staff of approved voluntary teachers to impart religious instruction through the medium of the Post Office to those children who, on account of suffering from physical infirmities or of living in the baokblocks districts, are unable to attend Sunday school. The veteran minister of St. James Presbvterian Church, Wellington South, the Rev. William Shirer, 0.8. E., is retiring after having been in charge of the church for over forty years. Born in Aberdeen in 1858, Mr Shirer completed his studies at Edinburgh University and tho Theological Hall, where eight years were spent, and was ordai ind at 'Wellington in 1888. Since that time he has remained faithful to St. James', despite tempting offers from other churches. For many years he held the position of chaplain to the sth Wellington Regiment, and is now on the retired list, with a long service medal. A few years ago his long and valuable services to the community were recognised by the bestowal of the Order of tho Briihh Empire. Miss Lorna Max's serious condition, as the result of a fall from a horse on Friday, was unchanged to-day.
