A medical discovery of importance to the whole world is reported to have been made in the shape of an anaesthetic. which becomes effective within fiftv seconds', and can be given persons with tho weakest of hearts. It has heen tested here. and. although secrecy is being maintained. it is learned that ouantities are being released throughout the Continent. The results will he tabulated before an announcement is made. The most gratify inn feature of the anaesthetic, which is known as sodium amvtal, is that the patient remains in twilight sleep for a period of 36. hours, and can he awakened at any time by the administration of an antidote. There is no retelling or any other similar aftermath of other anaesthetics.
