Dr. T. H. Valintine. Inspector-General of Health, will arrive in Nelson from Murchison to-morrow. Mr I*. Noble-Adanis was admitted bv His Honour Mr Justice Ostler at the recent Supreme Court session, ns a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Another of the early Marlborough pioneers, in the person of Airs i\ 0 Dwyer, of Ward, passed away after a brief illness at the residence of her son, .Mr W. O’Dwyer at Blind River, last week (reports the “Express”). The deceased lady, who prior to her marriage, was Miss Jane. Ann Robinson, claimed to he the first white woman to be born in Marlborough, having been horn at Spring Creek in 1851. She was married at Rose Tree Cottage, Spring Creek, to the late Mr Peter O'Dwyer in 1867 by the Rev. Father Seazeau and, with her husband, engaged in fanning operations at Spring Creek. When the Blind River settlement was opened Mr and Mrs O Dwyer drew a section there and carried on farming at Blind River for several years. Always of a gonial and cheerful disposition, the late All’s O’Dwyer was highly respected by her neighbours and had a wide circle of friends. She was particularly interested in athletic sports and games and took great pleasure in tiie numerous successes j of her family in various branches of j sport. As the earliest lady resident she I was chosen to perform the opening reremr.ny of the railway to Ward. The surviving fimily are six daughters— Afrs Sherry (Nelson). Mrs Devine (Ward), Mrs J". Stretch (Seddon). Airs F. AT. Francis (Ward). Airs P. Nicholas (Spring Ci’celc', and Mrs A. McDonald! (Seddon) —and two sons—Alessrs W.J O'Dwyer (Blind River), and B. O’Dwyer (Ward). There are 37 grandchildren and j 15 guat-grai.dcliildien.
