LADIES’ MATCH
KIA ORA A V. REWA A ladies’ hockey match, Kia Ora v. Re.wa was played at Richmond on. Saturday. The teams were: Kia Ora—P. Sutton, .D. Andrell, A. Schroder, V. Hill, G. Woods, L. Coleman, J. Beach, D. Fowler, J. Hill, D. Wells, R. Woods. Rewa—Cotton, Taylor, 110-lt, lioriicastle, Freeman, Weldon, Sowinan, Boyes, Smith, Stewart. Rewa bullied off in good weather. From the start J. Hill wort the bully, got away and passed to her wing, R. Woods, who made a good run up the ’line and centred, only to be sent back by Cotton, the Rewa back. E. Smith got thi' ball, worked her way down the centre, only to be robbed by A. Schroder, wlio was playing a good defence game. This player passed to Y. Dili, wlnr sent out to her left wing. Then R. Woods sent, in a good centre, which was got away, by Cotton after some exciting play in tin: visitors' circle. From this point the Rewa team seemed to brighten up. Weldon, who had been playing her usual good defence game, got’ the ball away and put it across to E. Smith, then to Stewart, and back to Smith, who passed to M. Freeman. Site, worked her way into the circle, to score a gool goal after fifteen minutes play. Rewti 1, Kia Ora 0. From the bully J. Hill got the ball away to D. Fowler, who passed to J. Beach. Beach lost the ball. Weldon intercepting the pass sent it down the wing to Taylor, who put across a weak centre, thus giving G. Woods a chance to clear. She passed to R, Woods, who made another good run down the line, only to be stopped by Cotton, who was playing a good game against a strong forward line. At this period the Rewa team were packing their goal. E. Smith falling back to help the defence, which was having a hard time against the home forwaid line. Some more exciting play followed until half time, when the score was Rewa I, Kia Ora 0. The first, half was very even. The second spell (stalled in good earnest. The Kia Ora forwards got away, J. llt 11 passing out to R. Woods, who was playing a very good game. She got away down the wing, being well supported by V. Hill and G. Woods. But the Rewa defence, \vhicb bad been rearranged, was playing well, especially the right back, who cleared the goals on many occasions. The visitors were on the defensive fur some minutes until Kia Ora began a successful movement. This time R. Woods and D. Wells combined weil witli G. Woods. This player put the. hall into the circle, and D. Wells, who was following up, put the ball into the net. making the score 1 all. This put new life into the Rewa team, hut lho rally was too late. Soon after the final whistle sounded with the score unchanged. The most consistent players were P. Sutton (goal), G. Woods and V. Hill (half). J. Hill, R. Woods and D. Wells (forward) for Kia Ora, and Weldon (half), Stewart, Smith and Freeman and Cotton for Rewa. Mr Crnnksliaw controlled the game.
