GENERAL A report was received from Miss McMurrav, a special officer under the department. who visited Mofticka. Brooklyn and Riwaka last, week in connection with the possible establishment of a class for backward children. Miss McMurrav reported that there were no backward children in the districts and the- establishment of a special class was quite unnecessary. The secretary reported a( length on the proposed new scheme for teachers’ salaries. A resolution was passed that the report be forwarded to the department as the board's considered opinion. A special grant of £25 was made to the Charleston School Committee towards incidental expenses. The secretary pointed out that no capitation had been paid to the school for two or three years because no statement could be obtained from the secretary to the committee. A resolution was passed that the department be written to protesting against the delay in. replying to the board’s communication about the suggested conveyance of tho Sunnyside school children lo Urmvhenua. The sum of £ls was granted to the Hampden street school committee. The, board agreed to lease a. school site in Gowan \ alley to Mr IT. CoUvnan. The Tasman committee’s request that the, board Tense Mrs Ifopkinson’s property which had been formerly rented ns an extension to the school site was acceded to, application to be made to the department in the usual way.
