PROGRESS LEAGUE MEETING A meeting of Iho committee of the Motueka District Progress League held in tlie High School was attended by the Mayor, Air S. P. Clay, (chairman), Messrs N. Ross, R. 11. Shaw-Tliompson, H. Buekeridgc, E. Trevena, D. W. Talbot, ,T. C. Smith, G. \V. Boundy and Mrs L. McCallum.
Regarding camping sites for motorists and visitors at the Motueka bench the Harbour Board Wrote stating that a special committee had gone into the matter. The Board also advised that owing to the greater portion of its available lands having already been taken up under leases by tenants, including the Motueka Safe Bathing Society, there was only a comparatively small area suitable for 1 camping sites remaining. In fairness to existing tenants the Board was not prepared to grant camping sites rent free. It was prepared, however, to grant the right of temporary occupancy upon application to tho Board’s secretary and payment at the rate of 2,s 6d per day or 10s per week.
'The chairman reported that Mr Best, Pangatotarn, had drawn his attention to the dangerous state of the Ngatinioti road near his residence, caused through river invasion. Tho road has been so badly damaged that in all probability n- deviation will have to be, made. The chairman pointed out the inconvenience that would be occasioned the public and the loss of trade to Motueka if ‘Ngatinioti road was closed to traffic, lie contended that to keep the road open was of vital importance to Motueka. Finally, it was decided, on the motion of Messrs Trevena and Talbot, that a deputation consisting of Messrs S. G. Smith, X. Ross and the Mayor interview Messrs Hewitson, H. Everett and Best and ascertain the Waimea County Council’s intention with regard to the Ngatinioti road which is being washed away by the river near Air Best’s residence, Pan’gatotara. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING
A special meeting of the Motueka District High School Committee was held last evening, and was attended bv Messrs E. Trevena (chairman), W. Bridle, D. Goodall, A. G. Talbot, G. Smith, J. King, J. Thomson .and Mrs Moffat t. The object of the meeting .was to receive the sub-committee’s • report re school grounds. Following a brief discussion it was decided 'o adopt tho recommendations of this committee to the extent that a cinder track covered with sand he laid across the playing area to the Technical School to obviate the necessity in wet weather of pupils from .the primary school going round by the road. It was also decided that six loads of gravel be utilised for filling in potholes on the football ground.
