TARIFF CHANGES
EXPECTATIONS IN DUNEDIN (By Telegraph—Special to “The Mail") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The provision warehouses of Dunedin merchants are at present carrying a somewhat lighter stock than usual. One reason is that the merchants do not want to be caught if tariff changes come about. ' Changes in some lines are quite on the cards, according to the belief of the well-informed. It is, for instance, deemed quite possible that the Minister of Customs will bring into being some reciprocity with Australia by which its muscatels and other dried fruits can come into New Zealand-on terms that will compete with those that rule our trade with America in those lines. Expectation m that direction is strengthened by the latest advices from California as to prices asked for new season’s fruit, these prices being- on a higher scale than those now ruling.
