The Arbitration Court was engaged to-day in the w&tersiders' dispute, in . which rates of pay, conditions of work, \ hours, etc.. were referred to the Court. His Honour Mr Justice Blair, intimated after the applications had been made j lor the exclusion' ? of the Auckland Gas Company and Sutherland and Pearson, that these would be heard at Auckland V ori 19th August. ! Cable and Co. and Niven and Co., en- '. gineering companies of Wellington, also sought exemption, and the Court intimated that it would consider the ap- . plications. •, Mr Bai'dsley, secretaryiof the Otago Harbour Board, sought exemption on behalf of that body. Mr Roberts, for ' the watersiders, said the board was a ■ shipowner' owning a hulk, dredge and two tugs. The board received cargo in gheds through a contractor and the union ' must deal with the hoard. ,". , The Lyttelton Harbour Board is seeking exemption in respect to certain classes of work.
