TEAM SOLD
OWN Kit's RETURN FROM AUSTRALIA .'By Telegrraph—Spocial to "Tha Mail") AUCKLAND, 16th July. Having sold three horses after racing them successfully in Australia, there returned to Auckland by the Marama from Sydney this morning' Mr IT. W. Bureh, the well known hotel proprietor and racehorse owner of Hamilton. Before taking his team, comprising Stormy, Dalston and Becalmed, across the. Tasman three months ago, the Waikato sportsman made no secret of his intention to sell, should sufficient inducement be held out to him. For the two-year-old Dalston, who was placed several times, Mr Burch received ,£1500; while for the well-known performer Stormy, an offer of £6CO was accepted. Becalmed, which has not done much racing, but shows promise, changed hands for £BSO. The trip was a very profitable one, said Mr Burch, and had Dalston put his head in front instead of being just beaten at Randwick, he would have made a Jot of money. , Stormy \s win in the Second Division of the Canterbury Park Cup meant just on £SOO, and as an addition to the stake ho received a very handsome cabinet of silver cutlery. Mr Burch started his horses in eight events, all told. He won two, and was placed second on three occasions. IMPRESSED WITH RANDWICK Touching on racing generally, Mr Burch said thai E. Rartle, who was at the top of the tree on the riding list, had piloted his horses in a number of events. There were some excellent iiorseinen in the Commonwealth (and he thought there were more good jockeys there at the' present moment than in New Zealand). He was much impressed with Randwick, the. training facilities and facilities for the public being really wonderful. From a scenic point of view, however, Ellcrslie excelled anything he had seen in the course of his travels. Very little money was put through the totalisator in comparison with New Zealand, but the wagering with the bookmakers at times was really phenomenal. The bookmakers themselves were splendidly controlled, and occasioned no trouble.
