Adams-, Government Seismologist, experiments" are v now being made in the! timing of the shocks, and observations at Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, and elsewhere Are co-ordinated for this, .purpose (states "The Post"). Some, valuable information, it is hoped, will be deduced from-these experiments, which are be-' . ing entered into with zest by .officers of the Telegraph' Department. As an example, he mentioned a shock which was felt at Westport at 3 a.m. on Sunday, 23rd June. Immediate telephonic communication with Grey month - was made, and'the clerk >at the latter place was able '• to. run twelve paces before be JVlt the shock. Clnistchurch was rung"up. but the. shock had already been felt there; but Christehureh had time to ring Auckland before the tremor bad got so far north, which was quick telephonic work, commented Dr. Adams. The most fruitful source of investigation at present, thinks Dr.' Adams, will be that done by geologists, especially when the Karamea district is investigated. , MR G. C.
