POLICE RAIDS
IN FOUR TARANAKI TOWNS ARREST OF ALLEGED BOOKMAKERS (By Teletraph—Pr«w Aiaoaiatioa) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Raids on premises alleged to be used by bookmakers were carried out by the police simultaneously in four chief Taranaki towns on Saturday. Thirteen arrests were made—eleven of the alleged bookmakers or keepers of common gamzing houses, and two of persons alleged to have been iound in common gaming houses. Later in the day the accused men were. brought before Justices of the Peace in the respective towns and remanded on bail. The arrested men are:—New Plymouth-: Herbert Thomas Allen, John Allen, Robert Mascall,- George McGlashen, John Shore, Oscar Royce Wander, all charged with bookmaking. At Stratford: Dominick Sissasach, for allegedly using' a Broadway restaurant os a common gaming house. At Eltham: Antonio Novak, an alleged bookmaker. At Hawera : Herbert Allen (billiard saloon keeper) and Thomas Henderson Teesdale, for alleged bookmaking and keeping gaming houses; William Elder, for allegedly assisting Teesdale; Edward Lavery and Thomas Connell, allegedly found in a common gaming house.
