IN BRITISH COLONIES (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 12th July. • The House of Commons to-day agreed, without division, to-provide a fund of £1,000,000 annually for the development of . agriculture in colonies and protected territories. The proposal, which was introduced by. Mr Thomas, Lord Privy Seal, in connection ivitji schemes for increasing employment, received general • approval by speakers of all parties. Mr Thomas mentioned many colonies which, with a little financial help, would embark on development schemes. He instanced drainage in Sierra Leone, copper developments in Northern Rhodesia, and the Zambesi bridge and several other cases of, work waiting to be done. All these schemes would mean the provision of more work in Britain as well as benefits for the colonies. Mr Arnery, Colonial Secretary in, the Conservative Government, welcomed the proposal, which he described as a piece of continuity'of policy as laid, down by the Conservative Party.
