MEETING AT TAKAKA

COMMITTEE FORMED At Takaka on Wednesday evening a meeting convened by Mr J. G. Page was held foe. the purpose of discussing ' relief to local sufferers from earthquake damage. Before commencing the business a vote of sympathy was accorded those who had suffered bereavement • through the earthquake. Arising out of a letter from the Nelson Relief Committee it was resolved that all present together with, the County Council form a relief committee. It was decided that all* requiring assistance be asked to notify the county clerk immediately. After a lengthy discussion on the matter of opening a" subscription list in Ta- * kaka it was resolved that, owing to the ; district befog one .of the affected areas, and practically every resident had suffered loss .through ■ the earthquake, no subscription ' list should be opeued locally, but any . perijons wishing to subscribe to the fund should, do so by forwarding their donation to Nelson. ; Tthe fund ; . - • Amongst a number of letters received • at the meeting' of the Nelson 'Farmers’ Union executive yesterday afternoon expressing sympathy with the relatives of those who suffered bereavement in the recent earthquake disaster, was one ... from- the Dominion Headquarters of. the ’ Union enclosing £SO for the Relief .
