Father John Dowling, S.M., M.A., of the teaching staff of St. Bede’s College, has been appointed Rector of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, in succession to the late Father" Ryan. Born in New Plymouth, Father Dowling received his education at the Stratford Convent School and Stratford District High School. From 19C6 to 1910 he was in the Treasury Department,'Wellington, and during'the latter part of that timte studied law at Victoria College. He entered St. Mary’s Seminary, Greemneadows, in 1910, and after his ordination in 1917 was assistant priest at Napier. In 1920 he was appointed to the staff of St. Bede's College, Christchurch. Continuing his studies at Canterbury College, he graduated for B.A. in 1923 and M. A. with honours the following year.
