A DISAPPEARING VILLAGE
The little Scottish- town or village of Eyemouth, six or seven miles north of Berwick, stands where the River Eye, emptying itself into Eyemouth Bay, is met by the tremendous force of the high tides as they sweep up the narrowing estuary. The battered breakwater and see .wall are no longer able to protect the town from the tempestuous onswecp. Many of the fishermen s cottages have already been swept away. The sea wall was built over 20 vears ago, and each year a portion collapses. The cost of renewing the sea wall would be £IO,OOO, and the town cannot afford to do it.
