ALL SAINTS' GIRL GUIDES

PRESENTATION OF RADGES There was n large gathering at All S;i iiit s' schoolroom last evening, when the various badges won by the All Saint's Girl Guides during the year were presented. The Guides were in the charge of Guide Captain Worley and Guide Lieut. McKellar. Canon Dart presided and among those on the platform were Mrs Tillyard who addressed the meeting in the unavoidable absence through indisposition of Mrs Moncrieff (Provincial Commissioner). Miss Dayman (Provincial Secretary) and Miss AYhßeside, Girl Guide Commissioner from India. Canon Dart said the gathering had been arranged to give the Guides a start off for the new year’s work, and also to enable parents and others to learn more of tlm nature of the work carried on. What girls could do if they gave their minds to the work could also be seen. The leaders could not compel unless tl’.e individual Guide was prepared to do her part. Guide Captain Worley then briefly reviewed the history of the troop. For four years they had been Peace Scouts and on the establishment of Girl Guides, in New Zealand had joined up with them. During the year in addition to the general classes there had been rallies, social?, initiation services, and camps. T!ie latter were a. particular feature in guiding and it was the girl who was fond of the camps who maintained the greatest interest in guiding. Canon Dart stated that Guide Lieut. McKellar had secured her commission. The announcement- was received with great applause, especially by the guides, testifying to the esteem in which the officer is held. Washbcrorn): Hazel Cotton, Patience Tillyard, Barbara Blomfieid, Betty McKay, Faith Tillvnrd, Phyllis Wood. Gukle Tests, Second Class (the Guide Captain W.G.W.) : Joan Hayman, Peggy Simpson. " First Class Test (very comprehensive and difficult test, 'examined by Mr Griffith of the Sea Scouts, except tor the 4 proficiency badges required): rlazel Cotton (Senior Patrol Leader), Gwen McNamara (Patrol Leader Robin latrolL Patience Tillyard (Second Leader Thrush Patrol), Barbara Blomfieid (Nightingale Patrol). Service Stars, five year gold star won bv” Hazel Cotton. Other service stars had been won, but had not come to hand. A silver star is awarded toi each year of service, and there are replaced by a gold one every five years. 1 Silver 'Cup: A silver cup was awarded to the patrol who had won the greatest number of marks for geneial efhc - enev during the year. It was won by the Thrush Patrol. Patrol Leader Hazel Cotton Joader of the Thrushes, came forward to receive it. Griffiths who had examined for Boatswain’s Badge and as X in the tests for Fist Class badges Finally Mrs Tillyard referred to a Thanks ‘Badge in silver and enamel, which may bo given to a. person not connected with the movement, hut ms shown special kindness to Guides Ibe All Saints company bad been foitunatc in possessing a fairy godmother who had done endless kind and generous acts to the company. It was the first 1 hanks Badge to be given m New Zealand and Miss Oldham was asked to accept it with the most sinccrest thanks ot tne girls and officers. “She’s a- jolly good fellow” was sung heartily and Canon Dart then called for three c.lieers.
