Universal has purchased the novel ‘‘Branded,” by Robert Ames Bonnet. It will be used as a staning vehicle lor Hoot Gibson. , Edward Clayton lias been engaged by the Century Eilni Corporation to play ilie juvenile lead opposite Wanda Wiley in herUatest comedy, “Met By Accident.” The latest photoplay edition to he released by the publishers is that made by A. L. Burt Company of Horniuig’s ‘‘Raffles, the Amateur Crackslran.” It contains beautiful illustrations of he Universal-Jewel .photoplay of the same name, starring House Peters. It is understood that ‘‘Scaramouche will be released late this year. Paramount Pictures have signed up Douglas McLean for a series of films. Jack Iloxie, star of the Blue Streak photoplays, lias gone to Lone Pine, California where “The White Outlaw” will be filmed. Marceline Day, Duke Lee, William Welsh, Charles Brinlev, and Floyd Shackleford are in the cast, which is under the direction of Clifford Smith. The same company will make . few scenes at Lono Pino also for Hoxie’s next picture, “Sky-High Corral.” Combining the romance of the West, with the colourful life of the sawdust ring, “The Circus Cowboy,” Charles Jones’ William Fox production, is one i f the most entertaining pictures Jones has made. Jack Dempsey will he co-starred with his wife, Estelle Taylor, in a picture to be called “Manhattan Madness.” The “Know Your Country” series of pictures of the Australian Commonwealth, will shortly be released in New Zealand. They are said to bo very fine. Thomas Me'ighan’s next offering for Paramount will be “Tongues of Flame.” In this picture Thomas esiays the role of a small town lawyer, who returns from the Great War, only to find that Lis own main street holds more trills tail the battlegrounds of France. Paramount’s Second Famous Forty Group will include “The Thundering Herd,” Zano Grey’s great story.
