In the Supreme Court, Thomas Higgins ,alias John Patrick lliggin, and Ray Buckley, alias Molly Riley, were charged with receiving money, knowing it to have been stolen. The former was ordered to be detained in an inebriates’ home for two years, and aiso to pay the cost of the prosecution. The latter, whom the jury recommended to mercy, was granted probation on certain conditions. Robert Howden and Denolm Gillespie, for theft from the person, were ordered reformative detention—Howden one year and Gillespie two years. Detective Holmes said Howden was a spieler and had a bad record. Counsel for Gillespie said the latter belonged to a very respectable family, and until the last few years had an unbemished record . Douglas Gordon Hollis, who pleaded guilty in the lower Court to the theft of a mail bag and contents, valued at £l3O, handed His Honour a written statement, and promised to gr straight after any temi of imprisonment inflicted. The Judge" said he could not grant probation as the ietters had been destroyed. He would sentence accused to twelve months’ reformative detention.
