SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS
STOKE, The annual meeting of householders was held in the Stoke School on May 4th. but was very poorly attended. Mr Geo. Ma.nson. was voted to the chair. The, balance-sheet and report, which were read and adopted, showed a very satisfactory state of affairs. A vote of thanks was passed to (he outgoing Committee. A ballot for the new Committee was then taken, "resulting m the return of Messrs Winn, P. Citing, W. Citing, Heath, and Longworth. At the subsequent meeting Mr Winn was elected chairman an c pMv P. Oiling was elected secretary and treasurer. UPPER MOUTERE The annual meeting of householders for the election of a new school comm ttce was held in the school on the e' filing of May 4th. There were 28 heuroholders present, despite the coal and showery weather. Mr F. W T . Ecd.le.SM was elected chairman. The secivoirv of the retiring school committee :d the report and balance sheet, which .vns read and adopted. A resolution was passed, insti l -erg tho secretary to write to the Kelson Education Hoard, thanking then for the well-built school which the Boa’-.l has recently'bad erected in the Upper Moutere. ' The school and buildings attached thereto are well finished <i'l and quite an addition and improvem-mt to the village. Well! as regards, 'he site a better one could not have been found. Reference was also made to the good work done by Air P .R. Parker, school dental officer, as regards < tie giving of dental treatment to the school children.
The secretary read the’ following, as had been entered in the committee s minute book: Mr P.' R. Parker made his last half-yearly visit on the 2-lth to 26th November, 1924. Sixteen fillings were made and 17 extractions, and to cover the expenses incurred car fare and freight, board and lodging, etc., amounting to £2 5s 6d) as charge of 1/9 per filling and 1/- per extra', 1 ua had been made. The number of rhimren undergoing treatment had visi n from 12' pupils on the first- visit in August, 1922, to 25 pupils on the recent visit in November 1924. At the rist visit 12 children received 91 operations; at the last visit- 25 children received 25 operations. This clearly demonstrates the success of the treatment and that dental disease can be greatly reduced by the means recommended by the Department of Health. Although the number of children undergoing treatment is steadily increasing, yet- the amount of work required to be done at each succeeding visit is gradually decreasing. If parents will endeavour loyally to carrv out the instructions given by the Department, 3l will certainly prove to bo of lasting benefit to the cinldren. The election of the new committee was then proceeded with, there being six nominations for five members. After a ballot had bon taken, Messrs F. vv. Feddersen, 11. Ewers, C>.-; Rush A. Scott and Jos. were dec lined to be duly elected members of the new school committee. The meeting closed with a vote ot thanks to the chairman.
