BASKET BALL ACTIVITY

The physical department has opened up a new avenue... locally by providing facilities for the boys of the (Technical School to play basket ball in the Gymnasium in the luncheon recess. The idea is a commendable one, as the need of sport of this nature has been sorely felt at. the Nelson Technical 'School, as there are no grounds attached to the school. During the last week, the box's have been learning the rudiments o>’-basket ball,' which is a game that combines every exercise used in other games, and the boys have enjoyed the games very much, and this week, felt competent to issue a- challenge to .the seriibv boy-s of 11i© Central SchoolThe game was played in the Gym. after school, and resulted in the Technical School boys having an easy ■win over the Central boys. A return match was played on Tuesday, with the same result. The headmasters and staff of the schools are. co-operating,in ousting to arrange these games, which are recognised as such good training for the other competitive games such as fcfotball and hockey, that the schools ehter for. . The gymnastic classes at the Y.M.C.A. ar’e growing steadily ,and are attracting the attention of a number of those de.sirous of attaining physical training on sound lines, and most enjoyable sessions ai’e held bi-weekly under Mr J. ,Scott-,• the physical director, i The - - ltmiesjgymnasium, under Miss Berry, 1 , fulfils a long-felt, want jn.
