Surprise was created in business circles by me issue of an order by the the Chancery Division for tho appointment o.f geceiver-manager for a great Cardiff concern, the Gould Steamship and Industrials Limited. The company’s authorised capital is £‘3,000,000,000. and £500,000 debentures were issued. The application was made with the company's consent on behalf of the Engle Star and British Dominions Insurance Company, trustees for the debenture holders. The business is being carried oil for the benefit of shareholders. J. C. Gould who is a,n ex-member o: the House of Commons, and is goevrning director, had a- remarkable career. Ho is tho son of a working man. He went- to South Africa, as an ordinary seaman, but left bis ship there and worked as a clerk. He then went to the United States, where he was employed successively as a labourer and insurance clerk. He studied insurance, and became beau of The largest New York marine insurance company. He established in 1908 a reinsurance firm in London, with branches throughout the Continent. When the war ruined reinsurance lie became a shipbroker and shipowner. Through Ills knowledge of Continental reinsurance ramifications tie revealed how Germany was learning from this source of shipping movements. Tile company is a victim of the world •slump and continued shipping depression.
