* MONTHLY MEETING
Tin l monthly meeting of the. Nelson Hospital Hi Kiri I wns held yesterday afternoon. Tliere were present: Messrs 0. M .Rout (chairman), 11. G. Berry - man. 11. Tuunicliff, K. (t. Barton, R. Spiers, J. G. Rape, T. Liowetsnn, and Ale.sdames . Moffat t- and Watson. On behalf of ilie country members, Mr .Berryman extended a welcome to the chairman and other town members on their re-election to the Board. This went to show that citizens had full confidence in them, and also in Mr .Rout as chairman.
Messrs Tunnicliffe, Hewetson and Spiers endorsed the remarks. Tlie town members and Airs Moffalt returned thanks.
The Resident Surgeon reported that during the month 65 patients were admitted to the institutimn, and 55 wine discharged, leaving 71 in the hospital at tin? end of the month.
The matron of’ the Motueka Cottage Hospital reported that live patients were admitted, six were discharged, leaving three remaining. The matron of Alexandra Home reported that two inmates had left during the' month. One had come home the. worse for drink and had been refused adminsiion\ j It. was resolved to endorse (lie matron's action. ! Payments for t-he month totalled I £1491. j Lhe relieving officer reported that i during the month 10 families received ns-j sistance, the sum of £2B 12s 10 being' granted in rations and fuel. Arising out of the report, the relieving oliicer was. instructed to take steps to 1 place tin- children of certain parents in i more congenial surroundings. ] The architect for the new hospital stat- j ed that the work was proceeding steadily. The chairman said everything; was going on smoothly.

From Mrs Briscoe, Murchison. re subsidy and fees for private hospital. - Consideration deferred for a month. from E. i'.. Beil, re tenders, for fuel supply.—. Secretary to continue to oh t.ain supplies as at present. From trustees, estate C. IT. Martin, forwarding £5 for year, as provided for in Hie will of the late C. IT* Martin. Received with thanks. MILK TENDER
From A. Simpson, protesting against the action of the Board in not accepting his tender (the lowest) for the supply of milk to the Board. The writer pointed out that if his tender luvd been accepted the Board would have saved £7l in three years. He was in a position to supply the Board with the bestquality of milk. The chairman thought in view of his statement that some explanation was warranted from a local body. Airs Watson said she had also received complaints. Afr Tuunicliff considered that if the Board had made a mistake it should admit it.
Mr Spiers did not think the Board had made a mistake. When tenders were under consideration the information which had since come before the Board regarding Mr Simpson’s ability to supply the Board, was not before the meeting. Air Berryman said lie had voted for the successful tender on the understanding that he had worked up a herd which would ensure a good supply nf milk all the year round. _ He had asked for information at the time as to A'r Simpson being able to give a suitable supply, but it was not available. On the motion of Mr Spiers, seconded by Air Berryman, it was resolved toinform Mr Simpson that the Board regrets that when his tender was before ihe Board lie did not furnish the information now before it. The Board rose after transacting some matters of minor public importance,
