BUTTER AND CHEESE
STABILISATION OF INDUSTRY

The New South Wales dairy industry stabilisation committee has circularised all butter and cheese factories in the state asking them' to enter into a voluntary agreement to give effect to the scheme for raising the level of local butter and cheesy prices by 3d and lid a pound respectively. The circular says that'the scheme provides for payment of an export bounty on butter and cheese which is to he provided by means of a levy on tlie industry, the amount levied to vary according to tlie ratio of expendable surplus to local sales. The arrangement is to he for twelve months and will cost the consumers of New South Wales an additional £3,000,000. Similar action need be taken in all states, as the scheme can only become operative if uniformity of action is secured .
