WASHINGTON, May 5

At the. opening of the seventh quinquennial session of the International Council of Women, the Countess of Aberdeen declared that the organization's strength lay in its constitutional inhibition against dealing with controversial, political and religions issues between nations. “Our special power as women lies in the formation of public opinion in favour of mutual aid and international co-operation based on fuller knowledge and intercourse between nations and their component parts.” She asserted that the Council must strive to gather up the war worn peoples of the earth “in the arms of an enveloping motherhood and soothe away nil their fears of one another and of an unknown future.” Addresses were made in four official languages to the convention—English, French, German and Spanish. NEW YORK. May 5. The pence committee of the Women’s Conference at Washington adopted a resolution, to he presented to the Council, under which members would pledge themselves to use all “their influence to procure the speedy inclusion of all nations” into the League. Another resolution would place the council on record as favouring gradual reductions in armament, as (lie only effective approach to general disarmament.
