CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS
THE ALL-NELSON MOVEMENT
TOTAL RECEIPTS ABOUT £I3OO.
Daffodil Week and Flower Queen elections in Riwaka and Takaka, organised in aid of the Lady Liverpool Committee's Christmas Gift Fund, has resulted in a total sum of about £I3OO being raised. Nelson City, the "Waimeas, Moutere, and Motueka combined forces for Daffodil Week, but Riwaka and Takaka, though working for the same cause, decided to have separate functions, and these were got off this week—Riwaka on Monday and Takaka yesterday. There were twelve Princesses in the Takaka contest, and Miss Nora Reilly (Princess Pansy) 'became Queen, Miss Phyllis Loveday (Princess Buttercup) being second. A Iballot was taken for the best representation of a flower, Miss Gwen Penney (Princess Violet) receiving most votes " A wristlet watch was presented to the Flower Queen, and each Princess received a souvenir brooch from the Daffodil Week Committee. The total takings will amount to about £350. Daffodil Week in Nelson produced about £BOO, Riwaka's function £175. and Takaka £350, making up a total of something over £I3OO.
