AN IMPORTANT SUMMIT CAPTURED
| wru i vaihw j GRADUAL- CONQUEST OF THE j MOUNTAIN BARRIER. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Association.) ROME, Sept. 26. A semi-official report says the capture of the summit of Mount Cardinal marks another step in the sui-e and systematic advance along the rough precipitous ridges between the Arsiero, Travignolo, and Vanoi Cismon Valleys. The recently captured positions at the Rolle and Col Bricon passes, and Mount 'Cauriol, and other points in this barrier lead to the principal peaks such as Cardinal . The value of the gradual occupation of this massive out-work arises from the fa-ct that it commands the Dolomite road connecting the Trentino and Cadore. That it is a. serious menace to the lines of communication alon gthe road traversing Cavalese to the Bozen-Trent railway is shown by the number of Austrian troops concentrated in the region, to which new units and new batteries are being continually added. There are now several divisions of the best Austrian troops in readiness to strongly oppose any advance. A few months ago the region wUs defended 'by only a few battalions. The advance continues steadily, despite the increase of the enemy's forces and the obstinacy of the resistance. AN" AUSTRIAN COMMUNIQUE. LONDON, Sept. 26. An Austrian communique says: "Two Aipini attacks at Mount Cardinal were bloodily repulsed."
