A despatch, front Berlin states that Von Jaigow, Minister for Foreign Affairs visited Mr Gerard, American Ambassador, to-day. The latter goes to Copenhagen on Tuesday and sails for America on Thursday." It is reported in Washington that Mr Gerard carrieg suggestions from Germany that the time is ripe for President Wilson to suggest mediating for ending the war. President Wilson is 'being advised by his friends to do nothing of this character on- his own responsibility, ibecause of tho .possibility of offending' the Allies. but to compel Germany to place her ideas concerning mediation in a formal document for submission to the Entente.
