: In the Senate, replying to a query as ito whether the British Government had I similarly requested Canada, South Africa, and the other Dominions to increase their reinforcements, Senator Pearce said the Government had- received confidential information which he was not at liberty to publish . He noted, however, that Now Zealand had- introduced compulsory service. SLACKNESS IN RECRUITING. SYDNEY, Sept. 22. Enlisting continues slack. The first 20 davs of September produced a total of 5535. Senator Russell intends to resign his Ministerial position and enlist after the referendum is taken . ANTT-CONSORTPTIOiN MEETING IN SYDNEY. (Rec. 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The anti-conscription campaien opened in the Town Hall, which, was -packed, and a big overflow meeting was held in the street. Mr Finliiyson. secretary, and Federal members were the cihiief speakers. The proceedings were orderly, and' resolutions were carried .against conscription for service abroad, and' pledgmsr those concerned to use every lawful means- against the carrying of the Referendum.
