SPECIAL RED CROSS EFFORT. During the week' ending 21st '.October' a special Red) Cross appeal willbe made, in connection with the commemoration •of the second anniversary of the amalgamation of the British "Red 'Cross Society : and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem for war purposes. The special effort referred' to will be general throughout New Zealand, and is at the instance of the Marquis of Lansdowne. The management of the Nelson Helping Hand Show has decided 1 to 'have .the 1 shop open for two days -during the third w.eek in October—on the 19th and 20th, and is appealing to the country districts to assist the effort by sending contributions of produce, takes, etc.
