STRANDED RELATIONS
BETWEEN A VICAR A.\T> His ■ CHOIR. (United Pi: ess Association.) Arf'KLANI). Sept. 13. A peculiar situation has :!>■•-; ut in «tnnecti'H; with the choir of •->,. Scpale.'--e's Anglican Church, and a < -limax 'was reached o!i Sunday la.-i, v. hen the ir.de members, did not. appear in their usual places at either morning or even ng .-• lrvice. A difference 01 opinion has existed for some time pa.-t between the Vicar. Rev. A. Richards, and the choir in regard to seating arrangements. Hitherto the men and boys have be.n seated in the chancel of the church and the l dies in the nave, just outside the chain e! rails. Owing to changes in the personnel of the choir, the members came to the conclusion that a different grouping of voices was desirable, and the Vicar's permission was asked to a scheme of rearrangement, which involved the seating of the ladies in the chancel. To this the Vicar -would not asrree. maintaining that it was against Ecclesiastical custom. The members pointed out that in the past ladies had been accustomed to sitting in the chancel of St. Sepulchre's, and that all other large Anglican churches in Auckland adopted the same practice. The male members of the choir have apparently decided not to resume their choral duties until a satisfactory settlement is arrived at. On the other hand, the Vicar states that the matter would be carried forward -and would not be dropped until a settlement had been reached. —Post Correspondent.
