PASSENGERS BY THE WHAKATANE.
[United Pbess ASsociatiom.] DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The s.s. Whakatane, from London direct, arrived in tho lower harbour lastevening. She brought -21 saloon and 380 third-class passengers, 22 of the latter being booked for .Dunedin, and the remainder for various ' ports. Of the .' third-class passengers 41 were nominated by relatives in the Dominion, and 121 were asisted by the Government. One third-class pasenger, Mrs T. Wilson, 84 years of age, who was coming out to relatives, died from bronchitis on December 14th. Amongst the passengers are 20 farmers, 14 farm labourers,' 15 domestics, one gardener, two poultry farmers, two shepherds, two miners, and seven women with families, whose husbands are residing in the Dominion. The capital ranged from £25 to £250. The passengers will leave to-day for ports as follow : — Wellington, seven saloon and 127 third-class ; Lyttelton, seven saloon and 45 third-class; Auckland, two saloon and 75 third-class; New Plymouth, 19 third-class.
