THE DISPROPORTION OF MUNICIPAL LAW.
To the Editor op the "Evening Mail.'» Sir. —As time goes on, we New Zealand oolonista seem to be turning ont a remarkably meek and law-abiding people. We submit to be dictated to, crawl over wooden bridges, and trot at a fnneral pace round solitary street corners. So far, fo good. But how about the rising generation ? As an elderly man and the father of a family, that is what chiffly alarms me. As I ride along these streets, so anxiously guarded by a careful Mm ici pal Council, why is my horsn to be frightened b? the sudden ghosiy bicicle, or t* rryfied by the boomine football projected between his Ipgs ? Why, Sir, is my wife to be bit. on the waist-belt hy the extemporised crirk****t ball, iotenrlpc. for the kerosene tin plan'cd in the mid-He of tbe roid ? Mr Edit ir, lam scions. I ask you u>hy'i It is time to gr.- to this ; el*sp in tbp next generation tt? horseman will r* fu.***'* tn walk bi3 horsf- over a woi dm bridge, iest the prechns structure expire in foriy-nir.e years instead of fif y ; r.ni will, after oar. ful'y locking roun 1 for Ne':bob's or.c policeman on dury, bolt furiou-'y round a corner wh^re no horrrn • r-ature is fr, be seen N**. Sir, tbis is quite t o awful to con-emplafe. Wra'V ev.-r our Maucipai !as- may be let it be proportionate.
