THE BLACK PRINCESS.
The Boston " Traveller" gives this; description of a Haitian Princefls :— The lady was the Princess Souloaque, daughter of the Emperor Soulouque, who was driven from his throne jears ago, and died in exile in Jamaica. Her face was a dead jet black, but the features were softly moulded, and, with a fine set of laughing teeth, made her appearance prepossessing. Sho wore 8 jaunty white turban hat with an immense cardinal red feather floating a;»ay behind like a ship's pennon. Her riding dreaa wag of sky blue, very long, and trailing in the duet. Around her waist was a broad gold sash, and in her to«>m she wore a sapphire brcoch almost as large as a saucer, She was mounted on a Venezuelan horee abou sixteen hands high, which wes made a present to her father by the President of Venezuela. The horse was as remarkable as the woman en his back. He was a clear cream color all over f he body, with long Bnow-white mane ami tail and most admirable Bhape. The lady's riding whip had a gold handle studded with precious Ht-.nee, and the bridle chain was of solid ailver. She
wore yellow ■ leather gloves, with; gauntlets extending as far as the elbow. He voice had a tendency to falsetto, and ita tones were peculiarly entertaining to hear. The Princese, but no longer a Princeea by the laws of the land, wa* educated in JEurope, and spoke four languages. ]
