WANTED AN EXPLANATION.
To THE EDITOB OF THE "EVENING MATL." Sir, — Several men who we thought were men of influence and principle that we saw on the requisition to Mr Shepbard to resign hU seat, as he had forfeited their confidence, are now canvassing for him. What confidence can we put in them after this ? Every wood carter that goes np Pigeon Valley for a load, when he gets back to the rirer and has to drop balf his load on one eide and wade through the river with the other, knows how he has neglected the district. When I signed the requisition it was understood that it wa9 not to bo printed. Now I want an explanation hoT Mr Shephard has regained their confidence, or I shan't forget to mention at the meeting? some names I saw on the list aa a lot of turn-coate. One of '.em as Caets Wood. P.S — Everybody knows there are twice as many carts go over to Pigeon Valley aa the Applehy and Wai-iti bridges put together.
