A FACTION FIGHT IN SPAIN.
A singular f fLir baa jost occurred in Catalonia, a regular pitched battle having been fought by the inhabitants of the two neighbouring villages of Calva and Piu de Calva. near Tarragona, The village cf Calva, which has only 200 inhabitants, is situated in a beautiful valley, between two lofty moDctaine, and has an abundant supply of water ; while Pia de Caiva, wbicb has twice the population, is very badly off, and is dependent upon tbe other village. A few days ago several children belonging to Calva came running back to the village acd informed th 9 people that they had been fired upon by tbe people of Pla de Calva while bathing in one of the mill-pootla ; and when the news became generally kcown all tbe able-bodied inhabitanti armed themselves with £uos, scythes, and elobe, and went out to attack tbe a&isiUstg, A pitched bau: : :. ;: :.yod |
and, though the Alcade of Calva tried to smooth matters over, the leaders of •be Pis de Calva declared that they would fight it out " Jo the bitter end " — or rather until the people of Calva consented to let them have tbeir fall share of water. Severn! mea were kiiled on fither side, and the fight was a-t eiopped until the Govprnor of Tarragona sent a detachment of troops to re-establish order.
