TO THE EDITOR OF THE "EVENING Mail"
Sia,— l am not much of a letter writer, but I cannot allow the attack that waß made ou4hc recent visit of the Naval Brigade to Motneka by " Anti Larrikin " and another to pass without returning a broadside in •elf defence. I can say withont fear of contradiction tbat the charges made by *« -Anti Larrikin " are not true. The Brigade at a whole are as well conducted as any other Ctmpany, and we are not deficient in drill or discipline, and when duty calls for aid, tbe Country will find we are not wanting in •outage, for tbere are in the Brigade men good and trne, and who are willing to flght to protect oar own firesides, or go to the front in our country's ctuie. I was with the Brigade at Motneka, and there was no rowdyism or any thing tbat transpired to cause ." Antl-Lsriikin " to heap Buch a tirade ~oi - abuse against them, which will certainly recoil on himself. The Band is fife and drum, and is composed mostly of very young men, and one or two of theße did display rather more hilarity than was decorous, but, lam sure, Mr Editor, you will see tbe writer signed " Anti-Larrikin " must have been anffeiing from a bitions attack at the time he wrote.— l am yours, &c, Osa of the Bahd. Nelton, Oct. 17th, 1881. m - — ggEgggs " '. .' " «aa
