Oct. 14, steamer Penguin, 472, Malcolm, from Picton, Wellington, and South. Passengers: Mesdamei Home, Woiland, Shaw, Buchhi'z, V7bitehou*e and family, Captain Wheeler. Messrs Solomon, Moir, 'Cflllaghan, Hill, M'Gec, and Chapman.
The Charles Edward vrrather permitting leaves Wellington to-ni»ht for Nelson. The Wallace is still detained at Greymouih by the heavy gale. The Murray and Kennedy are, in all probability, in the Bay waiting a moderation of the weather to proceed to West Coast ports. _ The Wakafu leaves for Wanganui, Wellipcfcn, ar«l Piter; at S o'clock to-night. The Waitaki arrived .it Wellington to-day. She returns here on Tuesday, sailing at 2 p.m came clay for Picton, Wellington, and Lyttelton. The Star of the South i 3 now anchored in fhe stream, end will leave for Westpcrt as soon as the weather moderates. Cspiain Wheeler, of the Wakatipu, arrived here by the Pensuiu this moruing on leave of absence. Captain Kennedy takes that steamer to Sydney this trip. The Crovdon L«s ig undergoing en extensive overhaul. Her cutwater has been removed, decks and top sides caulked, and a new topsail yard made, a pang of shipwrights having been at work at her for the last few days. The Penguin left Dunedin at 3 p.m. on Monday, called at Abiroi, Lytteltou, Wellington, and Picton, leaving tho latter port at 4 a.m. today, and arriving here at noon. She sails for Mannkau at 11 o'clock to-night. The barque Chaudiere, which is well known at this port, is now en her way from Newcastle to 1 im?ra She is in command of Captain Pitfield and originally came from London to Sydney, proceediog thence to Newcastle.
