RICHMOND H T GHWAY BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Board was held on Saturday, the 3rd September. All the members present except Mr Sheat, * Tlie minutes of the last monthly meeting, and those of the special meeting on the 20th August, were read and confirmed. The Inspector reported as follows : — That notice had been served on Mr Berkett to remove obstructions placed by him on the road, but the time had not yet expired,— That the Appleby Road was being repaired, and that a sum of £23 2s 6d had been expended there, but it would cost another £30 to finish the same.— That £19 10s had been spent on the Stoke Road. — That the road at Richmond leading to Mr Smythe's was very bad in places. Beaolved, 'J bat the gravelling at Appleby be proceeded with ; afterwards to repair road in Kichmond, doing no more than actually necessary; That the road leading to the Stoke Eailway Station be attended to; and that a pplash be put in on road at Hope, Mr Kidd agreeing to cart the stones. Besolved, Thai all the preliminary forms prescribed by law having now been complied with, the road between Sections Nos 52, 53, 66, and 16, on the plan of Suburban Sooth, be stopped, and to substitute a road in exchaage 43 links wide, and 28 chains 40 links long, through and along the aouth side of the said £h ction 53. "Warrants were signed for £52 Oa 6d. Tenders for renting the gravel reBerves in the district were received, and the following accepted : — For Bichmond gravel reserve, that of Mr Thomas Neal at £4 10a per annum, and for the one at Hope, that of Mr Springer at 25a per annum, from Isfc April, 1882. Eesolved, That the Board's advertisements apppear in the tri-weekly edition of the Colonist. Letter received from Mr S. H. Strong and other inhabitants residing at Hope, calling the attention of the Board to the defective water courses the said ditches being insufficient to carry off any excess of water, and causing it to back on to their lands, Eesolved, That a reply be sent to Mr Strong that the cause arises from the defective drainage through private lands, and that there is a Drainag Beill now before Parliament, which, as soon as it is passed, will leave them the remedy in their own hands. Letter frnm Mr A. G. Jenkins, objecting to the valuation ot his property. The Secretary was instructed to reply that the Board had no power, to alter the present valuation, but that his ob~ jectionß will be fully considered when making the new assessment. Eesolved, That an application be made to the County Council for the share of the County Funds divisible amongßt the various Highway Boards. Circular letter from Colonial Seerethry, asking for a return of the Board's indebtedness on the 31st March laßt, and also the value of endowments and property on the name date. As the Board was only constituted on the ilh July last a reply was sent accordingly.
