Lovers of the tragical and romantic are Surely on the increase ia Dunedin. We learu from the Otago Times that a young girl aboat 15 years of age, recently, through some disagreement with her parents, who reside at lieslyn, ran away from home. The police having heen communicated with on the matter> the runaway maiden was brought back under the care of a constable. While this individual was in conversation with the mother of the girl, the latter proceeded to her bedroom, took some liquid aconite, and was found shortly afterwards in convulsions. Medical assistance was at once procured, and an emetic administered, whereby any danger which threatened tha girl on account of her rash act was averted. The ladies- of Sydney have presented the Mayoress of that city with a handsome gift It is a diamond suite, consisting of a hand-Boaiely-mounted bracelet, locket and earrings, with necklet. In the brace'et there are thirty-three brilliant?, in the Jocket twenty-seven, and in tbe earrings nine each.
