RECREATION GROUNDS.
To the Editor of thb "Evening Mail."
Sih-As a later of tho game of cricket, ■ one of the manliest outdoor pastimes which it is possible for man to indulge in, I regret ' that the City Council have given the cold shoulder to an application made to them by Mr Topliss at their meeting on Friday last. ■ It is evident that unless the Councillors take the initiative and protect the reserves vested < in them for the good of the dommnnity, they ! will remain an eyesore to every individual ! who visits them, and leave a great blot dpon '■ their administration. The small sum proposed to be voted by Councillor Trask to wards commencing to improve the present unsightly condition of Victory Square would, lam cure, not be begrudged by any rate- ' payer who has an interest in the progress of i the city. Again, is it fair to the public hat ! the Botanical Reserve should be utilised as a grazing field by a favored few, causing ruts and footholes to be left, rendering the ground sometimes dangerous to be crossed. I trust, Sir, that the Domain Board at their next meeting will take the matter into their serious consideration, and if possible will try to please rather than offend the eyes of the public and visitors to the city.
Yours, &c,
Citizen.
