A SPIRIT ABROAD.
It is laid that a Hungarian, named Gyumbere, has been asleep at the hospital ofthoLehigh County Almshouae in Macungie, ia Pennsylvania, for upwards of 70 days. During the whole of this prolonged slumber he has opened big eyes but once, and this was caused, it is supposed, by a " fainting spell." Ho seems, however, by latest accounts to be gradually awakeing. A slight tap on the nose, it is stated, now causes him to smile. On the 16th of April an attendant lugged him out of bed and pushed him round the room. Lifting his eyelids, the attendant shook his fist at him, which made him smile " broadly." He was then shoved downstairs into the yard, and up and down the road in front of the almehouso. After that he was dipped in a bath. During these proceedings he appeared to know what was occurring, though. unable to speak or to move on his own accord. Dr. Erdman, the attending physician at the almsbouae, entertained hopes of the ultimate recovery of the unfortunate man. The doctor receives many letters from all parta of the United States respecting the case. Among the latest letters received is one from a wellknown spiritualist of Florida, who beseeches the doctor to allow no more experiments to be made on the sleeper, stating that the spirit of the unconscious man is not present to protect his body ; that for a wise and grand purpose the said spirit is travelling through space gathering information which will be of great use to tha human race in the future. In the meantime there is reason to feel that, if the body is awakened before the spirit returns to control it, there will be a " shindy " ia the hospital.
