r, ; , Syduet, Tuesday. During the last 24 hours three inches of ram have fallen. During a stiff north-east squall, many telegraph lines were blown down. The mountains are covered with snow. A report is current to-day that the Hon. Mr Campbell has made A donation of £10,000 towards the endowment of the new Anglican Bishopric. On Chong, a Chinese merchant, at whose house m George street the first outbreak of small-pox occurred, has sent in % bill to the Government for £2000 for losses sustained through being placed in quarantine. ; It is stated that Dra Clune and Coffyh also intend, if necessary, to sue the Government for damages sustained through their detention in quarantine. The former gentleman, it is said, will claim £10,000 damages. Wednesday. A crowded pobUc meeting was held last night at the Masonic Hall for the purpose of expressing sympathy with the persecuted Jews in Russia and raising funds for their assistance. Resolutions were passed in accordance with the object of the meeting, and a Committee was formed to collect subscriptions Over £1000 were subscribed, in the room, > Brisbane, Friday, Tha aetion, Miles versus M'llwraith, the Premier of Queensland, to recover penalties from the latter for having, while a member of General Assembly, been interested in Government contracts, has been commenced, and evidence has been partly heard. The defence alleges that the contract had terminated before Mr M'llwraith took his seat in Parliament. Wednesday, : In the action Miles versus Mellwraitb, the plaintiff's cage was concluded last nigh): when the defendant's counsel applied for a nonsuit.
