To thb Editob of thb "Evening Mail.'' SIR, — I feel it to be my duty to make public the liberal behaviour of the Norwich Union Eire Insurance Society to myself. On the twelfth of March last my dwellinghouse and goods were destroyed by fire, and to my dismay, on applying to the Agent, Mr Stanton, for the amount of loss, / found. I was not insured. My wife ha*d called at the office, (only two dayS before the fire) and had arranged for insuring, so far a§ to dgjreie tipon the amount, and had signed an application^ hut without date or term, intending that the btisiness should be completed on the same day ; this, however, was neglected, no premium was paid nor Receipts taken , and the " proposal " left open as stated. Under the above circumstances Mr Stanton laid the case bfefore his Directors at Norwich, and they believing in. the intention and the oversight, took the charitable view, and authorised the ex gratia allowance of £150, which sum has been handed to me this day, and for which handsome and unexpected liberality I desire to express my gratitude and thanks to the officers of the Society. I am, &c, MAEK HYLAND. Motueka, August 1.
