Mr Buc&eridge further states that his Company were unable to work their ground owing to great jealouLsies between, the two Companies; and the high charges imposed upon them byj the •' Perseverance Company for the use of the.water. and the .right to .work from the "* Perseverance " ground. A_tr Buckeridge concludes his memo by saying, " but owing to the great expense which it' appeared would be necessary and to the Compiiny's Capital being exhausted, the claim j was ultimately "abandoned, although the Shareholders and others believe that there is a large amount of Gold on then: own and' the *■ Perseverance ' claims?' :.The "Perseverance. Company " worked their, ground from ah incline shaft, 'and having inadequate pumping apparatus, -were prevented from continuing work, a report of rMr J.C. Richmond's to the, Shareholders of the ' ■< Fersevbrance • Gompanyi'^ advocated operations from either Bedstead Gully or Kelly's Creek. The Directors of " Johnston's United Company" have had an exhaustive survey made and numerous levels taken by Mr Rochf ort, C. E., aad ; have -determined on acting on Mr Rochf ort'-i advice to pht in a * funnel 'from Kelly's Creek, and' tenders are- now called to drive 400ft , when the Quartz Reefs should be first met jwith, this drive will also thoroughly drain .the. ground, Just outside of the Southern Boundary there is ali * ouccrop* of Silver Ore, dipping towards the- Company's gToUhd ; this has not beep workad, although ; specimens assayed gave a yield of over lOOzs per ton of ore A deposit or lode, Gffc. wide, contaihin? Yoilow Sulphate of Copper in large quantity, was found in the ''Perseverance Company's" ground, and fouud by assay to yield about 30 per cent of copper, and it was alscTfound rich in gold. Assay returns of Galena have , given over 70 per cent of lead.and-3bozs. - Silver to the ton. ; The Mine ;s an exceptionally good property The failure cf former Companies is traceable ■ to a very great extent to the want of experi- ' enced control over those working in the Mine, ind proper economy ia working expenses. It ia expected that no further call will be required other than towards maebinery— estimated cost £1000. Calls cannot exceed 2d' ' per month, and no call will be required for at least six months.
