Loxdon, July 28. The race for the Goodwood Cup, two and a half miles, was run to-day, and resulted as follows :— Dubarry, 1 ; Nottingham, 2 ; and .Fernandez, 3. The ship Republic has been got off, She has been towed into Calais, and docked for repairs. In the House of Commons to-day the Irish Lind; Bill wa3 reported to the House with tne amendments made in Committee and the third reading was fixed for the next sitting. Paris, July 28. News has been received from Tunis that since the cipture of the Town of Gabea the French forces beve occupied the Island of Gherba in the Gulf of Gabes. Calcctta, July 28. Telegrams have been received from Csndahar announcing that a battle waa fought 3 esterday between the forces of Ayoub Khan and those of the Ameer, resulting in the defeat of the latter. One of the Ameei'a regiments deserted and joined Ayoub Khan. an<i the rest of Abdur liihtmn's force fled after losing a 1 their guns and baggage. Later. "Further telegrams from Afghanistan report that the battle between Ayoub's and the Ameer's troops was fought at Karezieatta (Karez Illaiyar), a short distance south of Candahar. Since their defeat all the Ameer's cavalry have joined Ayoiib Kban, whose force ha3 been materially strengthened. The Ameer'a garrison in the city of Candahar is reported to be very weak, and unable to offer any strong resistance to Ayoub.
