BAKED ALIVE.
A truly horrible incident is reported in the Vieriuese papers as having taken place a few days ago in the grent paperimill of Messrs Gilbertjand Fuert'i, at Pilsen* it. having been- reportt -'■■ to the manager of that establishment; ihit great steam boiler was foul and the furnace required cleaning, he caused the fires to be extinguished, and. em- . ployed a gang of workmen to ex&q|n^ the necessary cleaning operations.lfiseg of the'labourers, a powerful young fellow of nineteen, named Anthons ICaczander, after toiling hard at his share of the job for several consecutive hours, lay down in the huge air-pipe, running lunder the main furnace, intending to snatch a few minutes' rest. Heimuat have fallen into a deep sleep, for, when the masons, instructed to brick up the end of the pipe jater on in the day, carried out their orders, he made no sign. As soon as tbe furnace was pronounced to be again in working order the stokers were instructed to light the fires and did so r Presen tly Kaczander was mis- ' sed in the mill. Search for him was ! instituted, but in vain. Next morning it appears to have occurred, to one of his fellow-workmen that he might have kept in the air-pipe. Upon this suggestion being communicated to the man r ager, steps were at once taken to^break. into the closed mouth of the tub^i and, sure enough, the charred skeleton of Anthony Kaczander was discjH<sred lying close to the issue, brre^e^; up during his heavy slumber ci^iieppreivious afternoon.
