MOTUEKA HIGHWAY BOARD.

The Board held its last meeting ou Saturday, June 22, the district having been divided, by proclamation of the Governor, into live separate Highway districts. The Secretary stated, that knowing the proclamation dividing the districts could not reach here in time if sent by post for the election on ?.lomiav, tho 4ib, be telegraphed on "Wednesday last to the Colonial Secretary ailvisinir that notices of the election should he" telegraphed to the local papers at once, and read a telegram from the Under Secretary stating that notices h-.id boon telegraphed to the Evexixg Mail newspaper. The Secretary also stated that ho had telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary inquiring about the auditing of the accounts, which had been made up for three months from the Ist of April last. The Secretary produced the books and accounts made up to .June 30, together with the vouchers and documents relating thereto, which the members accepted am! signed. Ive.'olvcd. That the Bonn! having carefully adjusted the amounts standing to the credit, and debit of each snb-dis-trict and the County fund account, it is desirable that a copy of the statement arrived at should be sent to each new Highway district with a request that each new Board will send a delegate, to meet at the Motueka Institute, to consider the same on Saturday, the 16th inst., at 2 o'clock. Resolved, That, after inspecting the inventory of the Board's property prepared by the Secretary, it is hereby agreed that any of such property that lias been debited to a sub-district shall be handed over to the new Board having control of such sub-district. Resolved, That the two pile-drivers should be kept in charge by the new Motueka Highway Board, on the understanding that each new Board .shall have the free use of the same, on condition that any damage the pile-drivers may sustain shall be repaired at the cost of the Board in whose charge they may be at the time such damage is done. Resolved, That the property of the Board, other than that mentioned in the two preceding resolutions, be retained by Mr Tarrant, and that he dis pose of the same (if possible) by private sale ; but, in the event of his not being able to do so within six months, such property to be sold by public auction. Resolved, That the Board, in consequence of the district being divided into several Highway districts, is under the necessity of parting with its Secretary and overseer, and in doing so desires to place on record its high appreciation of the manner in which Mr Tarrant has filled such office, and heartily hopes that he may soon find some other and more lucrative employ- 1 ruent.
