Feom the absence of any telegrams rela tive to last night's Parliament we presume that the House did not meet, but that an adjournment has taken plact in consequence of a number of the members having gone to Dunedin. If such is the case, the Press Association might at least bare informed us of the faotJ A meeting convened by placard was held at Mr William Ftirhall's house, Wakefleld, last night in reference to tke great want of a cart-bridge over the Wai-iti River at the Pigeon Valley crossing. It was mentiened that the settlers at Dovedale, Stanley Brook, Baton, and other outlying districts were most anxious about this matter, and had expressed their willingness to devote their time to getting signatures and in other ways helping on tha woik. It was resolved to prepare a memorial to the Government, and to distribute copies for signature. It was further resolvadto write to th» members for Nelson now at Wellington requesting them to add this important work to the list of roads and bridges already brought under the notice of the Government. It is in the form of a gplendid bucch of grapss from Mr Sunley'a hot-house on the Waimea Road. The Tine wbicb bore it is of the kind known as " West's St Peter,'* and & proof of its beferiDg qualities ia afforded by the fact that tbe first branch of tbe season was picked on New Year's Day and the last to-day, the Ist of July. Mr Sunley's grane growing establishment promises shortly to become one of the sights of Nelson. The following are the vital Btatisticß for the City of Nelson during the month of June:— -Birtbs 13, Deaths 4, Marriages 5 Curiously enough the number of deaths is the same as in the corresponding month of' last year. The publicans' fees received at the Customß duting the past month amounted in all to JE1468, divided as follows :— Boroueh of Nelson £1215; County of Waimea £218, County of Amu'i £35. The following are the Customs returns for the month of June:— Spirits, £1054 13s 6d; cigars, £24 16s 6d { tobacco, £490 ?j } wine, £79 13s 9dj ditto, sparkling, £6j ditto, Australian, 17 lj) 3 2d; ale and beer, £31 13s 9d; tea, £285 13s 4d; coffee, cocoa, &c, £31 15s; sugar, £167 15s 6i; goods by weight, £224 5s 6d ; ad valorem, £355 2s lid; gold duty, £65; beer duty, £133 18s sd; other duties, £139 19a 3d. Total, £3098 13s 7d. The entertainment advertised to take place ! in the Theatre Royal on Tuesday n§xt has been unavoidably postponed for a time. Tfts New Zealand Industrial Gazette, published in Wellington, has an article on Messrs W. and J. Staples' boot factory in that town, in which it speaks in high terms of the articles turned out there. The firm employs 36 hands, and has ft large aslbottnt of machinery of the itnoifc itnpr&ved kinds in constant Use. Messrs Staples have opened a branch of their business in Nelson aa will be seen by advertisement. Attention is directed to Messrs Everett Brothers and Co's new advertisement on the first pige.
