CORRESPONDENCE.

TfIJS. Late f ire. To the Editor of thb "Evenikg'Mah,." ; Sir— ln connection with the late fire several member* of the Naval Brigade had a narrow escape from being seriously injured, if not killed outright, by the reckless driving of a cabby, and aa no mention of it has yet been made in the newspaper? I think it ie only right that the fact should be recorded. Immediately after the first toll of the fire bell some of the Navais, who had just finished drilling, rushed across to the engine room, got out one of the hose reels, and started off to the scene of action. When turning the corner near the Institute they were mst by two cab 3 tearing along the street at a furious rate, and before the former could pull up to let the latter pass they were run into by the foremost of the cabs with such violence as to send the Blue Jackets sprawling in all direc tions, three or four of them being severely bruised, and one in particular sustaining such injuries that '"he has been incapacitated from work since that time. The cab escaped scot free, but the shaft of the reel, which came in contact with the horse's collar, was smashed. The Jehua appeared to be racing to the engine shed, presumably with the. view of getting the half-sovereign which the Fire Brigade ghrea to the first cab that takes the hose reel to the scene of conflagration. ...... I am, &c , A Naval. Nelson, June 30.
